Robert Frost, the American Poet, wrote of the challenges each person faces in life and he used the metaphor of roads that diverge in the woods to describe the choices we all make. Some of us prefer the well beaten path because it is known and it is safe. Others however choose to walk on the wild side in the sense that they seek routes that are challenging. They make decisions that place them on new routes in life, new routes that involve personal stretch and individual flexing of both old and new abilities to meet clearly defined goals. And in the process they find out more about themselves, about the fact that they possess more of the right stuff to not only survive but to prevail in the face of adversity.
And as Robert Frost said, the choice they make creates all the difference in both the quality and depth of personal understanding throughout the lives they lead.
People who choose the road less traveled learn that the sweet elixir of life is to be found in the process of becoming and not merely in the final results that efforts achieve.
